i have dreamed the last 3 years of owning my own island in second life. an opportunity to do that, and at a great deal, came up last month. a friend of mine was selling her islands and leaving SL. i paid rent on 1/4 of the island, which was where my main store for my business is located. it also hosted a university which i had been a part of for almost 3 years. we hated to see that go, and i hated having to move again. everyone was sad...so the owner decided to give a good deal, and i paid only 300$ for the island, and another friend paid the other 300$ of course we need to pay maintenance of 295$ each month. my half, about 150$ will be less if the island turns more profit. this is the first month now, and my portion was about 100$, which is about what i make each month.
so still, after 3 years, i have not had to pay real money to buy money in second life. i have made enough to cover expenses and to buy a few things.
although it is a bit close, i'm sure it will get better. we just started up this month. i spent a couple weeks terraforming the land, building the buildings, designing and arranging the island. i have created many hidden cool things. it is so great to have this creative outlet. i will post a pic of the island in it's almost done form.
right now, at 6am, with coffee in hand i am anxious to get back to building more.
